Randolf Air Force Base (AFB)

27 Sep 2008
While my Mom was visiting last week we went on several outings and I have pictures of each of them. I will put up the pictures on each of my blogs for the next few days.
This particular trip was to Randolf Air Force Base. Apparently there are about 3,000 air force bases in San Antonio. I've only been to two - but this one is the coolest so far. Lackland AFB, where we are, looks a lot like BYU student housing. The buildings are all super old and there are these big expanses of half-dead grass everywhere. But Randolf was really cool! This is a flight-training base where new pilots first learn to fly planes. They might have fighter jets there, but we didn't see any. All of the buildings on this base look like old white spanish buildings with red tile roofs. There are tons of trees and they probably have sprinklers because the grass is all really green and nice. We really had a good time driving around and looking at planes. Derek freaked out everytime he saw a helicopter - which was a lot of times.
This building is kind of the welcome center building. Apparently the tower is actually a water tower.

Here is Derek doing his new favorite pose. I think that lately I've seen his shirt all pulled up more than I've seen it down.
Here is Tyler showing off the trees. (Note please that San Antonio does NOT look like a dusty ghost town like Kay Lynn still thinks it does. We DO have scorpions, but they live in the grass and bushes under the trees.)
Here is Tyler standing next to some training planes.
We had a great time.
Polygamist Update: They aren't doing anything cool. The kids just load up the car with lots of overnight looking stuff - pillows and things and then go off with the older lady for a couple of days and then they all come back. I think that the younger lady and the older son stay home all day every day. They are still wearing those pioneer dresses.

It's Been Too Long

26 Sept 2008

Woah! It's been wayyyy too long since my last post. Oh well, I'm a slacker and maybe a little lazy. I actaully have been taking pictures, I just haven't posted any of them.

My pregnancy is going well except for my amazingly impressive weight gain (way more than normal - thanks to the birthday cake!!!) and the terrible veins in my left leg. There is one vein that is particularly awful, it bulges way out of my leg (no photo available - thank goodness) and it pretty much hurts all the time. Other than that, I'm good and little baby girl is good.

This morning I was trying to sleep but the neighbor's dog wouldn't stop barking for over an hour. When I finally got up I was suprised to find that the barking dog was actually in my yard! Yay - a stray! Not really. It was just a little pomeranian puppy that got away from our neighbor's yard. I found out later that another neighbor actually found him and then put him over our fence for some reason - dork!
Anyway, the puppy didn't have any tags so I went to a few neighbors' houses but no one was home. I was hoping that he had a microchip so Derek and I took him to PetSmart but no luck. I bought him a little collar so that my choke leash wouldn't keep strangling him and took him back home. I was out in the back yard taking his picture so that I could put a sign on the mailboxes when I heard his owner going door to door looking for him. She was kind of ditzy. She said that he gets out all the time. Duh - put a tag on him!!!!! Arg!!!!! Oh well, it's fine.

Here is the picture. He's kinda cute but I couldn't pet him because I'm super allergic to dogs. (Not Ralphie though cause he has a different kind of fur/hair than most dogs.)
I think I should win some kind of special animal lover award for not just calling the pound when I first found him peeing on my lawn chair.

Storytime

Tyler has already mastered all of the vocab words he's supposed to learn in 1st grade (no wonder he's distracted in class!), so we've put him to work reading the bedtime story to Derek.

More Rock Band time for Mom and Dad!

DoubleMint Birthday

Suzie and Amanda celebrated their birthday here in SA. Suzie got a food processor, a chip dish, and some little decorative salad-oil squirter thingies. We got Amanda a scrapbook to hold Emily pictures and...some other fabulous prizes that she opened before she came over, so you might have to go to their blog to find out what she got.

Joseph and Amanda also bought us a very generous present, Rock Band for the Wii!. It's like Guitar Hero, but with drums and a mic. Suzie sang 'Say it ain't so' by Weezer while Jared accompanied on guitar.

Righteous!

We'll always remember you, Pirelli.

Remember our little amphibian friend from the August 31 entry (see below)? Welllllll, apparently he'd hopped into our driveway to greet us when we returned from church last week.

I was pretty sure that my friend who had come to pick me up for work was the culprit, until Suzie noticed the trail of blood leading into the garage. She also found blood on the tire (next week, on CSI San Antonio).

Now his death will serve as a warning to OTHER toads...

It's a TRAP!!!

One of the posts on Nathan's blog reminded me of this clip from Robot Chicken.

Sleepy Birthday

4 Sep 2008

Happy Birthday Kevin!!! Kevin turned the big 23 today. We weren't there but I'm sure it was nice.

I don't have any new pictures so I thought that I would just devote this entire blog to Kevin's favorite activity...sleeping...zz...zz...zz...

Oh Jared you sexy beast!

That is Tyler in my arms! Jared took this picture in 2002. That couch was blue and then green and now in the basement of our old house because it was too small to fit out the doorway when we moved. We had to saw the arms off to get it in there.

Me and Derek.

Jared realized how hot the Texas heat actually is.

Kevin wake up! It's Christmas morning!

Dad realized how hot the Texas heat really is.

Derek thinks that Rick Steves is incredibly boring (listen close to the background).

When Mom and Dad take a nap, everyone takes a nap. This is how we found them when we woke up on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

It's A Girl!

3 Sep 2008

I just went to my ultrasound (2 weeks late - you know the government) and we are having a baby girl! Yay! I really wanted a girl.

The ultrasound pictures came out really blurry and our scanner doesn't work with our new computer (Christmas present idea ?!?) so no photos yet. You'll all have to wait till Dec when she's born. (It's got to be Dec because we want the tax credit for 2008 :)

Curry and Spiders

1 Sep 2008

We had a really great labor day. Jared taught Tyler how to play guitar hero and Derek and I went around the house doing chores from my list in between watching episodes of "The Closer" on the TNT Labor Day marathon. It was a pretty great day...until dinner. Here is the video - it speaks for itself.

After dinner Jared was letting Ralphie out into the backyard and found this! It's not quite as big as it looks in the picture but it is every bit as gross. The abdomen is TOTALLY covered with baby spiders!

[From Jared] Suzie didn't want to go to bed with a jar full of spiders in her kitchen, so she decided to exterminate them. Suzie is afraid of heights, deep water, being shot at, and spiders, roll clip...

Poligamist Update: They have a new car. The Utah Buick has been replaced with an Arizona Crown Vic! Also, they ordered pizza for dinner.
