Here is my third cake. This time I tried coloring the fondant and making fondant decorations. It worked out really well! I also got a new buttercream recipe that makes more round shaped balls (as opposed to "kiss" shaped).
Holly really likes the cake so she is smiling her approval.
So are you guys eating all these cakes you are making? That's a lot of cake but you are all young and active so it's okay. They look really nice though.
We only eat one piece and then we throw it away :( I gave one to my friend and we had some of Jared's friends over to help us eat this last one. I made the bow and the curly ribbon out of fondant. It held it's shape as long as it was in the fridge. As soon as it got out in the warm, humid Texas air they melted flat on the cake.
So Suzie, you HAVE to teach me your tricks! I have been trying to learn how to do bows like that for several years, but I am not very patient so I give up fast. I can't wait to see Holly today while you shop. She is getting so big, and as adorable as always!
I wonder how the fondant tastes. Most fondant I've had wasn't awesome. It definitely looks fantastic, but is it worth it? If you're not going to eat the cake, you might try decorating cardboard boxes or inverted cake pans. You could make an enormous, beautiful wedding cake that was mostly cardboard boxes frosted with fondant (or Playdough for that matter). As long as the top layer is real so that the bride and groom have something to eat in front of the guests (and put into the freezer if they're into that), no one would care and it would be much cheaper.

I think she was going to go with a box covered in fondant--it was the only way we could get Megan Fox to fit inside...
What a cool cake! What don't you do lady, you are so talented:) That Holly sure is a cutie pie, very smiley too!
